Harnessing the Power of the Sun
Traditional coffee roasting methods often rely on electricity or gas, leading to significant carbon emissions. Our sun-loving roasters decided to flip the script and leverage one of the most abundant resources in Arizona: sunlight. Using the GoSun Sport Solar Oven, they tap into the sun’s energy, providing a clean, renewable, and efficient heat source for roasting coffee beans.
The Science Behind Solar Roasting
It all starts with a multimeter, a critical tool that measures the solar oven’s temperature to ensure it reaches the perfect roasting conditions. The GoSun Sport Solar Oven, known for its efficiency and portability, can reach temperatures of up to 550°F (288°C). This is more than sufficient to roast coffee beans to perfection. The mesh strainer plays its part by cooling the beans down quickly after the roasting is complete. We then do a quality check on the beans and pick out any imperfections or unroasted beans.

A Blend of Tradition and Innovation
Roasting coffee with sunlight is more than just a novel idea; it’s a blend of tradition and innovation. The process respects the age-old methods of coffee preparation while incorporating cutting-edge technology to minimize environmental impact. Every batch of coffee roasted this way tells a story of dedication, passion, and a commitment to sustainable practices.
The Taste Test
So, how does solar-roasted coffee compare to its conventionally roasted counterparts? Early taste tests indicate that the solar method produces a uniquely smooth and rich flavor profile. The beans are evenly roasted, preserving their natural oils and enhancing their aromatic qualities. Coffee connoisseurs describe the taste as both vibrant and balanced, with a hint of sunshine in every sip.

Whether you’re a die-hard coffee lover or an eco-conscious consumer, this sun-soaked brewing method offers a delicious and sustainable alternative. We are going to continue to innovate on this solution to get better yields and higher output.
So, next time you’re in Tucson, don’t miss the opportunity to savor a cup of solar-roasted coffee. It’s a taste of the future, powered by the sun.
NOTE: We are measuring the temperature of inside the tube… Not the bean temperature. We pulled the beans at a high temperature, higher than you are probably used to seeing when roasting coffee.
